Bill of Material

Bill of Materials are used to associate finished goods with raw materials and identify standard manufacturing costs incurred when making these finished goods using the Work Orders option. The raw material and finished goods relationship, standard manufacturing costs, and other raw material components defined in the Bill of Material (BOM) are used in Work Orders to produce multiple finished good items from the same raw material, add manufacturing costs to the finished goods produced, and add other raw material items (like packaging, ingredients, supplies) to the cost of the finished good.

Source

The type of raw material :

  • P = Primary Raw Material - Used as the primary raw material for planning purposes on the planning report and production planning report. A finished goods item can only have one primary raw material.
  • R = Raw Material - This is an alternate item from which the finished goods item can be produced,
  • I = Infrequent Raw Material - The infrequent raw material is used for a raw material that is infrequently used to produce the finished goods item. The finished goods item will appear in the infrequent finished goods selection box when creating a work order from this raw material.
  • A = Other Raw Material Actual - Used to add the actual quantity of packaging, ingredients or other components used to produced the finished goods item. The user will have the option to update the standard usage with the actual lot and quantity used .
  • S = Other Raw Material Standard - Used to allocate the standard quantity of packaging, ingredients or other components used to produced the finished goods item, The standard other raw material quantity cannot be changed on the work order. The completed work order will remove the other raw material item from inventory at the standard quantity and from the first available lot.

Work in process type items cannot be used as raw material or other raw material items. Non-stocked items can only be ORM type A or S.

COOL The COOL level and default COOL identity for the raw material item(s)
Un

The stocking unit of measure for the raw material item(s).

Standards The total standard manufacturing cost to be added to the finished good when produced from the primary raw material, raw material, or infrequent raw material source type items. It is the current unit cost of other raw material items.
Usage Quantity The standard quantity and unit of measure of the other raw material to be used. For other raw material items that are stocked by the "each" and only a portion of the will be used, enter the quantity as the decimal equivalent of the stocking unit. For example: the item is a case of poly bags that contains 1000 bags. If 10 bags are needed to produce the finished good item the standard usage quantity is .0100 = 10/1000.This option only applies to other raw material items.
Scrap Factor Use this field to add a scrap factor to the standard usage quantity of the other raw material. The scrap factor is added to the standard usage quantity to calculate the total standard quantity needed on the work order. The scrap factor is entered as a decimal. This option only applies to other raw material items.
